The Alsobrooks Youth Leadership Institute (AYLI) is a 21-member body of Prince George’s Proud youth from throughout the County. AYLI is a diverse group of youth (ages 14-17, grades 9-11) from different backgrounds - ethnic, economic, and social who are serious about the lives of youth in our County and interested in County government. The program is an intense immersion-learning opportunity in which participants are required to attend 95% of the program meetings, modules, and service activities. AYLI is looking for forward-thinking young people who want to invest in their personal and professional growth while giving back and paying it forward. AYLI will represent the best of our youth and those who have a desire to make a positive impact on not just Prince George’s County, but the world. Participants will receive community service hours for school credit. Transportation is not provided.

AYLI is looking for youth with:
  • a strong interest in community service and willingness to serve as a volunteer in their community and for County government;
  • dedicated time to participate and be active in the program;
  • a willingness to develop and share creative solutions for issues involving youth;
  • a commitment to doing what is right for those in need;
  • a willingness to learn about the County and its history, culture, and operations; and
  • an interest in strengthening their leadership skills.
AYLI members will be responsible for:
  • attending community meetings and serving with the County Executive at these events;
  • meeting with County leadership to share the concerns of youth;
  • making positive and strategic recommendations regarding policies that impact and affect the lives of youth in the County;
  • recommending groups and organizations that could support community outreach concerning youth;
  • providing feedback on select legislation related to youth;
  • learning more and sharing information about the resources and programs available to youth in the County;
  • assisting with increasing the social media touch with youth in the County via TikTok, IG, and others;
  • developing and implementing a service project that will impact the lives of youth in the County; and
  • increasing the number of youth interested in the County government.

  • 7 of 9 General meetings per program year
  • 3 of 5 Community events per program year
  • Full completion of the five (5) Leadership Institute modules
General meetings will be held
  • When: Every second Tuesday from 6:00pm-8:30pm
  • Where: Wayne K. Curry Administration Building, Largo, MD
Leadership Institutes will be held:
  • When: Every third Thursday from 5:00pm-9:00pm
  • Where: Wayne K. Curry Administration Building, Largo, MD
Notes:
Open to all students attending Prince George’s County, Public, Charter, Private or Home Schools
  • Grades: 9 – 11 (as of 2024 school year)
  • Residency: Must be a resident of Prince Georges County
  • Program runs: January 1 – December 5, 2024
  • Application open: September 11 – October 13, 2023 at 5:00pm EST
  • Minimum GPA: 2.5
